Human Anatomy & Physiology

  • Year long course
  • Dual credit: 2 high school credits;  6 college credits (Newman University)
  • Requirements: must be a junior who earned a C or higher in Biology

Course Description: 

This course is designed to teach the fundamentals of human anatomical structure and function. Course material will include an overview of clinical terminology, the history of anatomy and involve the study of anatomy at the microscopic level of cells, organelles and tissues and the organ systems level.

The structure and related function of each of the skeletal and muscular systems will be examined in detail, emphasizing the key components related to exercise and training. The major anatomical structures of other body systems (e.g., gastrointestinal) will also be covered.

This class is an in-depth look into the human body and how it works. There will be videos that are graphic in nature. All students will be expected to dissect and take tests on preserved specimens. Aprons, goggles and dissecting tools will be provided when necessary. This class will be taught at the college level for all students whether they are taking the class for college credit or not.
